Profitability of Melon Processing Among Women In Enugu State, Nigeria

The processing of melon is a means livelihood in Nigeria, especially among rural women. Its role cannot be overemphasised the life women who are vulnerable to poverty and food insecurity. Despite vital on women’s livelihoods, little has been done its economic potential. This study, therefore, analysed economics drivers profit level processors Enugu state, Nigeria. A four-stage sampling technique was used select sample 150 respondents. Data collected were using descriptive statistics, gross margin, logistic multiple regressions. results revealed that majority married, adult, well experienced had as their major occupation. Marital status, household size, cooperative memberships, income from price processed positive factors influencing while educational qualification negatively influenced it. Women net N18,163.72 (US $47.68) per 50kg processed, return capital invested 0.39 an operating ratio 0.69. Thus, profitable enterprise. profitability positively by market access, occupation, marital status but cost transportation cost. study recommends government intervention providing conducive accessible markets, subsidising shelling machines reduce which will, turn, enhance processing.
